An Intro

What's up everyone, I'm Sarah. I am one of the contributors to this blog. The other contributor is my twin sister. I have been playing basketball pretty much my entire life. I did rec league, AAU ball, middle school, high school, and I played one year of club basketball while at UNC. I was a manager for the women's basketball team for a little while and my one claim to fame is that they did try to get me to tryout. I didn't so here I am writing a basketball blog. I would like to follow that up by saying I have worked on ESPN 3 and ACC network productions while as a student at UNC and for several years after, but in came COVID and a lot of those opportunities dried up. I also worked in news production (we aren't even going to go there) at the time as well. I got out of both, moved to Delaware, and I now work in healthcare. Not mad about it. It's a lot more stable. Anyway this is my way to still be involved with sports and stay connected to UNC basketball and home.

My fandom for UNC basketball goes way back even before I became a student. I lived and breathed Carolina basketball and hated going to school the next day when we got beat by Duke or State. Both fan bases are equally annoying just more people in State's fan base actually went there. I was in elementary school in 2005 when Roy won his first title. I got my parents to get me out of school so we could go to the Smith Center to greet the team when they got back. I was in the Smith Center for the watch party for the 2009 championship and I was on Franklin Street as a student when we won in 2017. A ton of Mike's hard lemonade didn't help the run there. My adult beverage choices have gotten better since college I promise. The Cookout I had the next day was probably the best I have ever had. The Daily Tar Heel from that day hung up in my apartment the rest of the time I was in school. I have the SI's and Daily Tar Heels for the other years as well.

Being as big of a fan as I am, I am just happy we will have Carolina Basketball this season with the whole rona situation. Plus last year was awful. Not just our record, but so many heartbreaking losses. I was in the Smith Center when UVA beat us with a last second 3 pointer. I saw it coming. The one thing we couldn't let happen, we did. That was how last year went. Not to mention Cole Anthony didn't really impress me. I don't think he fit our system, but to be far he didn't have a lot of talent around him so he did too much. I think this year will be different. Last year we were overrated and fell hard. This year we are underrated and have a freshmen class worth getting excited over. Caleb Love is going to be fun to watch and it will be interesting to see how long it takes him to pick up Roy's system. I could see him being like Coby White. When Coby figured out the system, man, he was fun to watch. Pair Love with RJ Davis and that is an exciting back court. RJ is scrappy and will take on anyone and then add Anthony Harris to the mix and that's an extremely fast back court. Harris is another scrappy player who was showing flashes before he went down last year. I am excited to see how he develops. I can see Garrison Brooks having a Brice Johnson type year now that he has more people to help him out. Roy Williams finally has the front court depth he wants with the additions of Sharpe and Kessler. Sharpe provides a rim protector and another physical player. Kessler reminds me a lot of Tyler Zeller. Imagine being the opposition and Brooks and Bacot go out only to be replaced by Sharpe and Kessler, that is going to be deflating. Bacot can also play more within himself this year since he won't be asked to do as much. The moment seemed too big for him at times last year. This year there will be less pressure with the added depth. Hopefully Leaky Black can take a step forward this year also for the same reason. Either he is really going to shine or take a backseat to the freshmen. It's up to him. I really thought he could Theo Pinson like when he got to Carolina, but he has yet to play up to his potential in my opinion. Puff Johnson was a huge get as I believe he will be a 4 year player, and it will be fun to see him develop. If he can shoot like Cam and has anywhere close to the same basketball IQ then Carolina got a great 4 year player. Kerwin Walton was a great late pick up. He is known as a shooter and we desperately need some. RJ Davis is known as shooter as well and hopefully those two can be paired together some this season. I believe Walton will be a 4 year player as well.

It pains me that the greatest rivalry in all of college sports will most likely have limited or no fans this year. It's almost unamerican, but at least we get Carolina basketball this year. At least that is the plan for now anyway. I need it for my sanity even though at times Carolina drives me crazy. I look forward to following this team and sharing my opinion and insights with everyone. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! And oh yeah we didn't miss the tournament last year since there wasn't one.

I am Lauren, the other part of this dynamic duo. I provide the dynamic, Sarah makes this a duo. I started playing basketball at an early age. I played rec ball in a mostly male league, so I quickly learned how to do the little/technical things right to try and get an advantage over the stronger guys. I have always prided myself on being a student of the game and having high basketball IQ. A trait that was overlooked often times, I hope that you find that these things are shown in my analysis of UNC basketball. I played middle school ball, high school ball, AAU ball. In college a played a year on UNC's women's club basketball then was…
