I am Lauren, the other part of this dynamic duo. I provide the dynamic, Sarah makes this a duo. I started playing basketball at an early age. I played rec ball in a mostly male league, so I quickly learned how to do the little/technical things right to try and get an advantage over the stronger guys. I have always prided myself on being a student of the game and having high basketball IQ. A trait that was overlooked often times, I hope that you find that these things are shown in my analysis of UNC basketball. I played middle school ball, high school ball, AAU ball. In college a played a year on UNC's women's club basketball then was a manager for the women's basketball team and was even offered the chance to walk on. I turned it down to pursue my goal of getting into PA school, which included rigorous science courses and patient care experience. Last year's team was overrated and left us heart broken on numerous occasions. I was in the Smith Center for the Duke game. I am still bitter about it. This year's team will be drastically different. Garrison Brooks provides solid senior leadership and if he can get his free throw troubles figured out then I think he lives up to his preseason accolades, which include the Preseason ACC player of the year, Karl Malone watch list, preseason All-ACC First Team and Naismith Player of the Year Watch List. Returner Armando Bacot trained with UNC alumni Ed Davis during the offseason and should be much more productive in his sophomore season. He was named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar watch list. Joining him on this watch list is Walker Kessler. I see him as a Tyler Zeller/Frank Kaminsky hybrid. It will be interesting to see how Roy uses him. He can shoot from the outside and could pull the other post defender outside the paint to account for that, giving Sharpe more room to work in the post. For the first time in alittle while we will have a legitimate post presence. It's going to be exhausting for opposing teams to have to deal with Brooks/Bacot and then Sharpe/Kessler. We should return to our dominance on the boards. To go with our post game, we have some pretty explosive freshman guards. Caleb Love has been named to the Naismith Player of the Year Watch List and will start at point this year. These past couple of years have sort of been uncharted territory with one and done point guards and I expect Caleb Love will be no different. He can get to the basket and has a jump shot. There will be a learning curve to running Roy William's offense but if he can learn quickly, watch out. RJ Davis is another explosive guard with a good jump shot. Hes scrappy and pairing him with Love, brings back memories of the Marcus Paige/Joel Berry pairing. Leaky Black will be forced to step up or find himself sitting behind the dynamic freshman. Anthony Harris has yet to be cleared, but will be a nice addition once he gets back. He had some promising moments last year before he got hurt. If Puff Johnson is anywhere near the shooter that Cam was, he will provide a nice outside touch, along with fellow freshman Kerwin Walton. Andrew Platek has been shooting the ball well in practice, hopefully that translate to the games. This team is looking more and more like your typical inside-outside Roy Williams team. This team has a very high ceiling. Our outside game and defense are going to make the difference between being an average team and a contender. Looking farther ahead, I see Walton, Kessler, Harris, Johnson being 3/4 year players. This class may be the back bone that eventually brings another national championship to Chapel Hill. With that being said Go Heels! F**k Duke and the rona.
